If you suspect your swimming pool has a leak, it typically arises from two main areas:

  1. The Inner Shell of the Pool: This includes the liner, light niche, skimmer boxes, steps, gaskets, etc.
  2. The Plumbing: This encompasses the pipes that run underground and the filter system itself.

Bob the diver and his team specialize in surveying and repairing leaks found in the inner shell of the swimming pool.

Important Note: Pools open during the summer will experience a certain amount of normal evaporation. However, even in extreme circumstances, evaporation should not exceed 1/4 of an inch in a 24-hour period.

  • Winter Water Loss: Did my pool lose a noticeable amount of water over the winter? If so, it’s an indication that the leak originates from the pool’s shell. This is a prime time to contact Bob and his crew!
  • Intermittent Leak: Does the leak seem intermittent, changing depending on the time of day or year? An intermittent leak can suggest a problem with the plumbing. In contrast, a shell leak will generally remain consistent.
    • Note: A very dirty pool might have debris clogging potential holes, thereby slowing the leak.
  • Plugging Test:
    • Purpose: This test helps you determine the source of the leak before involving professionals.
    • Procedure:
      • First, establish a water loss baseline, e.g., 1 inch in 24 hours. You can gauge this by placing tape on the skimmer box frame at your usual fill level and measuring from there.
      • Refill the pool to the tape mark and plug all plumbing lines simultaneously (skimmers, returns, Polaris line, etc.).
      • Measure the subsequent water loss and compare it to your baseline.
        • If the leak stops with your plumbing lines plugged, it’s a plumbing issue. You should consider contacting your pool company.
        • If the rate of leakage remains consistent with the plumbing lines plugged, the issue lies within the pool’s shell. In this case, it’s time to reach out to Bob and his team!
  • If your pool has a leak, call us directly and save!
